Next generation of folding knives.

A new design of slip joint or non-locking knife mechanism is being pioneered by Spyderco Knives

Just as the notch-joint is a non-locking variation on the locking bar, the ball-bearing joint derives from the liner-lock. Both of these designs are being promoted as the next generation of folding knives. The ball bearing joint is used in Spyderco's newest production prototype, the Bob Terzuola Slipit Knife, which has a 3 inch S30V steel blade and carbon fibre handle scales. Although full technical details are not available, it probably consists of a large ball bearing which springs in and out of blade tang detent on opening and closing.

'Legal, socially friendly, politically correct knives that we enjoy carrying.' (Mr S. Glesser, Owner of Spyderco Knives)

Meanwhile the existing range of 'Slipit' knives is being expanded with a serrated edge, sheep-foot blade, rescue version of the UK Penknife. The lower cost, FRN handle versions of the Spyderco Urban Knife is also expected soon.
